Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira joins the copyright and trade mark prosecution tables for the first time. The firm also moves up a Tier in trade mark contentious after a busy year acting in a range of sectors and securing some impressive damages claims for infringement. The firm has 20 lawyers dedicated to IP and is instructed by a number of high-profile global clients for trade mark work. The firm's IP team is led by its head partner Jorge Llevat, a trade mark specialist, and eight principal partners and senior associates.

In recent work, Llevat and senior associate Cristina Vendrell represented Levi Strauss in civil and criminal proceedings to defend its trade marks, and in a dispute before the local courts the firm won Levi Strauss some of the highest damages seen in the country for trade mark infringement. Partner Ana Soto and Vendrell acted for the Aldanondo Group to defend a denomination of origin label for the cheese Idiazabal and advised Caviar Petrossian in litigation over its Chatka trade mark.

The firm also acted in the chemical industry for generics company Sumitomo Chemical and, in fashion, partner Enrique Sánchez-Quiñones and senior associate Manuel de Torres helped Quicksilver DC Shoes in civil and criminal proceedings to protect its trade marks. In copyright, partner Alejandro Negro and senior associate Sergio Sanfulgencio advised UGC Iberia against a collecting society.
