Bird & Bird Maciej Gawronski opened up an IP practice in the autumn of 2008 and is looking to take advantage of its international network. With 21 offices across Europe and Asia, the firm is looking to attract clients as more IP cases in Poland go to court. On one stand-out case the head of IP Piotr Dynowski and senior associate Emilia Stepien advised the international basketball federation Fiba on the unauthorised use of its trade marks at the European Championships in 2010. The firm contacted the infringing producer and subsequently brought an end to the illegal distribution. Managing partner of Policy Action Wes Himes, a client of the firm, says: "We worked with them on a case regarding the EU compliance of Polish law.
