The IP department of full service law firm Barrera Siqueiros y Torres Landa has been an established presence in the IP market for over 60 years. Founded in 1948 under the name of Hidalgo Barrera y Siqueiros, the firm has offices in Mexico City and Monterrey. The IP group operates both as a coordinated area of the general practice and as an independent boutique. It is best known for its skilled litigation team. Clients include key players such as Bacardi, Hewlett-Packard and Universal Music.

Partner Bernardo Herrerias, who leads the department, was singled out for praise by peers. One rival described him as "a very well-respected attorney" with "skills, ethics and conviction", while another said: "He's a person who gives a lot of follow-up and really studies all the arguments – he's a strong competitor."

In 2010, the firm was involved in anti-counterfeiting programmes with Hewlett-Packard and Procter & Gamble's Gillette brand. The project involved working with the Attorney General's Office, the Mexican Trade Mark Office and Customs officials to secure border measures and seize counterfeited goods. The firm has also taken part in drafting, proposing and lobbying for changes in Mexican IP law.
