As a new entry to the rankings in this year's copyright category, Ancona & Asociados is a small but up-and-coming IP boutique with influential contacts. The firm, which has been in business since 1997, focuses on copyright. Senior partner Arturo Ancona is a former director of the Mexican Copyright Registry and was previously a senior consultant for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Ancona advises the Mexican Federal Commission of Telecommunications on intellectual property issues and has acted as an expert witness on copyright for Televisa in a federal court case involving millions of pesos. He and junior partner Raul Lopez-Blanquet are two of 38 lawyers authorised as copyright arbitrators by the Mexican Copyright Office. The firm's clientele includes major broadcasting and movie companies such as Televisa, TV Azteca and Cadena Mexicana de Exhibicion, which owns the Cinemex trade mark.
