Borenius & Kemppinen is the leading contentious firm representing generic companies, and there is no doubt of its tier one position for patent work across the board. It is one of the biggest firms, with 20 lawyers focused on IP. Its most active client in 2010 was Ratiopharm. Ben Rapinoja, Saara Lapiolahti and Linda Liitola defended their client in litigation against an Eli Lilly infringement claim over its drug Zyprexa, on an infringement dispute related to the ingredient donepezil hydrochloride, and against a Merck infringement action over the drug Losatrix. Elsewhere, specialist partner Lasse Laaksonen, Liitola and Katarina Langenskiöld won a case for Actavis Group against Novartis at the Court of Appeals and helped their client enter the Finnish market without litigation for other products. Partner Pekka Tarkela was busy in broadcasting, advising a group of rights holders against TV-Kaista, a company offering on-demand TV recording services, and Yleisradio Oy (the Finnish national broadcasting company). Ilkka Aalto-Setälä and Jukka Airaksinen advised WSOY, the publishing arm of legal media group Sanoma Oyjm, in a Supreme Court case. One client recommends Laaksonen: "he knows his stuff and puts it across very eloquently". Another client says the firm is "extremely responsive and commercially astute". The firm has developed new services to bolster its anti-counterfeiting expertise and recently became part of CAPIP (Coalition Against Piracy).
