Muñiz Ramirez Pérez-Taiman & Olaya is a large and prestigious general practice firm with a strong IP department. The firm has six offices in Peru and two in Ecuador, with an even split between domestic and international clients. Peers note that the practice, which was founded in 1981, has a particularly good track record in patent litigation. "I think it's quite a strong office right now," said one competitor.

The firm has an enviable list of clients including Eli Lilly, Bayer Schering Pharma, Microsoft, Cisco and Honda. It recently won a landmark case for Banco Internacional del Perú, which was allowed to register a colour as a trade mark based on the criteria of secondary meaning. It is the first time that a bank has been able to claim exclusive use of a colour to identify its services in the Peruvian market. The firm also successfully represented Johnson & Johnson in a notable case in June 2010 over the Yondelis trade mark. The case was one of the first in which data protection was granted for a pharmaceutical product that will have an exclusivity term in the market.
