Dickstein Shapiro prevailed on behalf of Dr Bruce Saffran in a patent infringement suit against a major adversary, obtaining a $482 million verdict in the Eastern District of Texas against Johnson & Johnson. The Dickstein team, composed of Gary Hoffman, Paul Taskier and James Brady, succeeded in proving the medical device maker had infringed a patent relating to drug-eluting cardiac stents. The firm previously obtained more than $500 million against Boston Scientific in a similar case that later settled for an undisclosed amount following an appeal. Dickstein further strengthened its trade mark team with the addition of former King & Spalding partners Clark Lackert and Keith Sharkin to the New York office.
