Noted by peers as "the emerging firm in Taiwan recently," Rich IP & Co can look back on a strong year and has been busy equally with business and pro bono work. A veteran in the IP market, president Russell Horng is often invited by official bodies, such as Taiwan Judicial Yuan and Taiwan Intellectual Property Academy, to offer training courses. Clients feel that this kind of experience is "particularly helpful in improving patent capability and case quality". Another in-house counsel toasts the firm: "The quality of services provided by Rich IP is obviously superior to that of the other Taiwan patent firms. Rich IP can also provide us with good strategy for patent protection and for establishing our patent portfolio."
LCD manufacturer Sitronix recruited the firm to defend it from a patent infringement claim filed by UltraChip, an IC driver design company, who demanded compensation of more than NT$100 million ($3.4 million). The case was dismissed by the court after a three-year trial as the patent lacked novelty. Another highlight case handled by the firm was a patent invalidation proceeding acting for Orient Semiconductor Electronics (OSE). The client was accused by a rival of infringing its patent and OSE responded by asking TIPO to invalidate the patent. Although the request was rejected, the IP Court ruled that TIPO should invalidate and revoke the patent.
