With more than 25 patent attorneys and 15 litigators for IP, Yoon & Yang is a respected firm. Toyota, adidas, BASF, Merck and SK Telecom are some of the firm's large clients. While Duck Soon Chang's departure to Kim & Chang was a great loss, the firm has still had a strong year.

Salvatore Ferragamo enlisted Dong Oh Hong and Ji Hye Seol in a trade mark infringement case filed against Kumkang Shoe. The Court ruled in favour of the client and found the defendant guilty of using seven shoe ornaments whose trade marks belong to Salvatore Ferragamo. The case showed that shoe decorations can function as trade marks.

Hong and Se Jung Lee represented Korean clothing company Worlvi Trading in a copyright infringement suit brought by Japanese jean maker Evisu Japan Kabusiki Kaishya. The matter concerned a seagull pattern found on the back pockets of the plaintiff's jeans. The Court found that the opponent could not claim copyright in Korea as the pattern was not an original copyrighted work.

"I'm happy with the quality of work it has provided," says a client who uses the firm for trade mark prosecution and enforcement work. "It is efficient and clear when communicating with me and it can give me sensible advice for legal matters."

The client puts Ted Kwon on a pedestal, saying, "We've achieved a lot of success in establishing and protecting our rights in Korea and I appreciate all the sensible advice that Ted has provided. It might have taken a lot longer and been more difficult without the help of Ted."

In copyright, the firm has provided legal advisory services to domestic and international film distributors such as CJ Entertainment and Warner Bros. Partner Wonil Kim is adept in that area and is described as "attentive" and "prompt" by one client.
