Gorodissky & Partners is the clear front-runner when it comes to prosecution, holding by far the biggest market share in both patents (handling half of all foreign patent applications) and trade marks (a third of all foreign trade mark and design applications). It originally came from the state-owned patent and trade mark agency and has since held on to much of its market share, adapting to compete with foreign entrants. G&P has also been increasing its contentious activity each year. Its attorneys are well represented in IP associations, with managing partner Valery Medvedev acting as vice-president of LES Russia, senior partner Sergey Dudushkin as vice-president of the Russian group of AIPPI and senior partner Anatoly Pavlovsky as a vice-president of the Russian Chamber of Patent Attorneys. In 2010, Vladimir Mescheriakov, Alexander Kurepin and Nikita Bezdomnikov defended oil and gas company Positron against Synergy-Leader and successfully invalidated one of Synergy's patented utility models. On the trade mark side, Natalia Stepanova won a trade mark infringement case for Blizzard Entertainment to protect its mark World of Warcraft. "The firm is larger than anyone in patent prosecution, and has the luxury of a narrow specialisation in patents" says a competitor. Another says the firm is "very good; it provides a totally different world of advice".
