Jan Wierzchon & Partners (JWP) has been a solid presence across the IP market over the past 12 months, reinforcing its position in both the contentious and prosecution tables. The firm expanded both sides of its practice, hiring the two patent attorneys Anna Meissner from the Office of IP and Patent Information and Grazyna Palka from Polservice. Lawyer Tomaz Grucelski also joined from OHIM to bolster the trade mark and anti-counterfeiting litigation team.

On the patent litigation side, the firm represented Temapharm on an infringement case claimed by Bayer Schering Pharm. Led by managing partner Dorota Rzazewska and Pawel Balcerzak, the case demonstrated the difficulty in defining the circumstances in which an interim injunction can be granted. In trade marks the firm, led again by Rzazewska, represented Polska Zywnosc, a leading food producer, regarding a comparative advertising case. The complaint from the plaintiff was of unfair competition following a television advert that broadcasted incorrect information. With the increase of IP awareness in Poland JWP offers business advice and training in all aspects of patent and trade mark work, including domain names.
