Tandbergs Patentkontor moves up to the second tier based on strong feedback on some of its leading individuals. The firm has made the strategic transition away from pure prosecution and into higher value areas such as conflict resolution and expert support in litigation. According to the market the firm has some of the best agents around. "Stein Roar Gjøen is very impressive. He has a very broad and impressive engineering background in addition to IP law. He is the type of person that never gives up even if he faces challenging tasks," says a client. "We came across him by accident," says a leading litigation firm, "and he stood out with his experience and expertise: having worked in industry he is very capable". According to a client, which has used numerous firms, "Stein is much better than the other companies and he has the ability to go much deeper into the subject and provide excellent assistance."

According to one competitor, there has been a notable turnaround since former Bryn Aarflot AS CEO Liv-Ellinor Torp joined the firm in 2009. "She has taken her commercial understanding and has done a good job on staffing – they have quite a few good people, good for mechanical and engineering and offshore engineering. Some recent cases have been quite complicated and technical, so we have turned to Tandbergs; we need to work with people who know and can explain what is going on – it is the quality of the way it gets explained," says a leading IP lawyer. In 2010 the firm awarded the quality assurance ISO9000 certification.
