Società Italiana Brevetti is a preeminent patent and trade mark prosecution practice led by managing partner Fabrizio de Benedetti. The team comprises 32 attorneys, and it has four offices, in Milan, Rome, Florence and Verona. Although the firm is a prosecution practice, it works closely with separate sister firm Studio Legale SIB.
Brevetti's clients include Merck Sharp and Dohme and ST Microelectronics. In addition to that, the team has been active in more contentious work, including acting for the opponent Life Gate in challenging trade marks held by a competitor, a challenge that was held up in its entirety on appeal. This decision came in April 2012.
On the patent side, a notable piece of work was partner Elisabetta Papa's leading of a team advising Plantechno with regard to a European patent opposition over transgenic plants. This case is still awaiting judgment.
