Lung Tin International Intellectual Property Agent was one of the firms officially authorised to advise foreign clients in the 1990s. Although it has perhaps not developed as quickly as some of the other firms given approval at the same time, the firm is definitely catching up. It recruited three patent attorneys last year and two of the new hires have become key members in the chemical and biology and mechanical departments.
Lung Tin has a mixture of local clients and international names such as Hewlett-Packard, LG Electronics, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Huawei and Haier. "We have used several IP firms in China, but five to six years ago we decided to centralise our applications to Lung Tin because of the good quality of its services and the price level is reasonable. It also understands our needs and it comes regularly to Europe to give us education relating to Chinese patent law amendments," explains a client on his preferred choice of the firm. A recent highlight of the practice saw partner Xing Xuehong advise PJ Hungary Szolgáltató Korlátolt Felelosségu Társaság, a jeans maker, to object to the applications for a series of trade marks that are similar to its famous mark on the grounds of bad faith registration.
