Holding strong in the patent rankings, litigation boutique Dimock Stratton has notable strength in high tech and pharmaceutical matters. Major companies such as Sandoz Canada, Mycogen Plant Science and Research In Motion (RIM) turn to the firm for its scientific acumen.

Peers consistently ranked co-founder Ron Dimock among the nation's best, with one describing him as a "smart, capable litigator who thinks on his feet very well". Another said that Dimock has "more patent trial experience than anybody else".

The firm guided three of Canada's largest financial institutions in a settlement involving an impeachment action against a patent owned by the developer of a check-processing system, DataTreasury. The widely publicised case, filed in 2007, involved business method patents, a controversial topic within legal and technology circles. The firm acted on behalf of Toronto-Dominion Bank, the Royal Bank of Canada and the Bank of Montreal – among a string of financial institutions in Canada and the US – which were alleged to have infringed DataTreasury's patent.

Eisen, who is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Intellectual Property (Patent) Law, leads a team of lawyers who draft and successfully prosecute patent applications in the chemical, biotech, computer software and hardware, business methods and other technical areas.
