With over 60 years of experience in intellectual property, Daniel Advogados continues to be regarded as a strong contender, particularly in filing. The practice suffered the loss of senior partner Alexandre Ferreira, who left in February 2010, and partner Patricia Lusoli, who left in October 2010. However, a new generation of talent has already emerged; Igor Simões, a patent agent, and Sheila Medeiros, an associate, were elected as partners in November 2010.
Clients of the firm include Hasbro, Avon, Caterpillar and Kimberly-Clark. The firm also does pro-bono work for the Save the Children Alliance, handling the organisation's trade marks in Brazil. The firm has two offices, with headquarters in Rio de Janeiro and a branch in São Paulo. One competitor noted that the São Paulo office is "strategically placed in relation to the patent office".
The firm worked with several other practices around the world to organise and host the BIPF 2010 (also known as the BRIC IP Forum), a conference designed to promote relationships between emerging markets such as Brazil, India, China and Russia. Around 160 people attended the event, which has been running since 2008 and is hosted in a different country each year. Participants included IP lawyers, key figures from WIPO and representatives from multinational corporations.
Daniel successfully represented Skecher's after a local shoe manufacturer filed a trade mark cancelation action against the footwear brand. The final ruling, which cannot be appealed, was delivered in November 2010. It was the first decision by the country's Superior Court of Justice, confirming the status of the Skecher's mark. Other notable work includes obtaining a court order on behalf of Intel requiring one of the country's State Registry of Companies to cancel the incorporation of a company that had been inactive for more than ten years.
