As part of the largest company in Latin America in terms of geographical presence and turnover, the Peruvian branch of Clarke Modet & Co has made a name for itself as a key player in the local market. Founded in 1829 in Spain, the practice has been in Latin America for over 46 years. Peers identified it as having particular expertise in patent prosecution.
The firm represents multinationals such as Warner Bros, Cadbury, Visa and Hallmark along with public sector organisations, universities, technology transfer offices, scientific and technology parks and more. Overall, it advises over 20,000 clients in 180 countries. "We are absolutely delighted with the work Clarke Modet is doing for us in Peru," said one client of the firm.
Both clients and peers singled out director general Claudia Fernandini for praise. "She's very good and very responsive," said a client. "She provides thorough advice and we have a good working relationship with her."
Recent notable work includes obtaining a geographical indication for coffee in record time for the Villa Rica Agricultural Coffee Association and Villa Rica Municipality. The company also successfully represented bag manufacturer Sacos del Sur in reclaiming a trade mark it had created. The mark was designed by the company for bags for rice and made available for use by rice producers as a rice brand. The manufacturer was unable to register the trade mark at the time due to blocking registrations, but continued using it. In 2007, a rice producer registered the mark as its own after cancelling the blocking registrations. Sacos del Sur successfully filed for the registration to be made void.
