Boutique technology and IP outfit Hudson Gavin Martin was created in 2007 by Wayne Hudson, Mark Gavin and Simon Martin. The team comprises 11 solicitors and represents a number of well-known brands including Sony, Louis Vuitton, Woolworths and Vodafone. "It is new and doing well in the market," comments a peer.
In the last year, the firm was active in trade mark litigation matters. Gavin and Jason Rudkin-Binks is advising four of the country's leading insurers – IAG Insurance, Vero Insurance, AA Insurance and Tower Insurance – in a suit against the registration of My Insurance. The duo further guided Lion Nathan with brand clearance and protection over the launch of Te Hana, a sparkling wine. The product was recently launched. In the copyright area, the firm provides advice for a number of publishers.
"I am very happy with the service," says one client who uses the firm on trade mark registrations, contracts and licences. "I like that I get good quality partners but without the large bills that come with a large firm. I am running a number of smaller firms with complex needs so Hudson Gavin Martin is the best fit."
An in-house counsel also commends: "Hudson Gavin Martin is very good. It has expertise and experience in a formal setting. It's demonstrated real keenness to work with us and is more innovative around billing. It's got that sorted out really well."
