Founded in 1972, Veirano Advogados is one of the largest general practice firms in Brazil with correspondent firms in over 90 countries and a staff of around 700. Described by competitors as well known and traditional, the firm's IP group has earned a solid reputation for itself. "It has a name in copyright contentious," said one competitor.
In June 2010, Veirano advised Indian sugar producer Shree Renuka Sugars on the purchase of a majority stake in Brazil's Gurpo Equipav. The $250 million deal was the largest Indian investment in Brazil.
Veirano has also set up a consultative council of Brazilian and international business figures who meet periodically to appraise and advise on guidelines for business. The project aims to lend greater transparency to the administration and contribute to the firm's ability to identify new opportunities. Veirano is also working with the Arbitration Center of the Brazil Canada Chamber of Commerce to organise an event for law students in April 2011. The event, known as Veirano Moot Training, aims to prepare 16 teams from different schools for the annual Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna by simulating a court of arbitration.
