After a merger in late 2010, Kilpatrick Stockton and Townsend and Townsend and Crew emerged in the new year as Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton. The newly formed firm placed highly across all specialties and has 17 offices in the US and internationally. A client familiar with the firm's Kilpatrick group said it takes a lean approach to litigation and has "very friendly people who get on well with our business people, and with whom we have established some very strong relationships - they achieve excellent results".
The firm's trade mark practice is highly regarded by legal commentators and has handled matters for JA Apparel, owner of the Joseph Abboud brand, and Sony Pictures. "In the South, Kilpatrick is the go-to trade mark contentious firm - it has a large vibrant practice," said a peer. Atlanta-based Joseph Beck was recognised by peers as a leader in copyright litigation. "An elder statesman in a good way," said a competitor. "I respect him a lot." Beck successfully represented Sony Pictures Entertainment in a copyright infringement case in which the plaintiff claimed that the Adam Sandler movie, Don't Mess with the Zohan, violated his work. The firm obtained summary judgment on all claims.
