Operating out of its sole office in Taipei and with eight lawyers working on IP matters, Winkler Partners represents many foreign multinational companies. As a result, the bulk of IP work handled by the firm involves cross-border issues. Peter Dernbach has been leading the IP team since 2003 and has 30 years of experience under his belt in trade mark, copyright and brand protection work.
In the past year, the firm handled the Taiwan matters for numerous well-known foreign brands ranging from luxury goods, pharmaceutical, entertainment and technology, to food and beverage industries. In one case, Dernbach and Christine Chen represented one of the world's most famous entertainment companies in enforcing its copyright and trade marks. Through working closely with the police, the team helped its client seize hundreds of thousands of pieces of counterfeit goods.
Dernbach and Gary Kuo also assisted a well-known sports brand in protecting its core mark from being invalidated. The duo appeared before the IP court in successfully overturning the IP Office's first decision that invalidated its client's well known registered mark.
