Big Scottish law firm Maclay Murray & Spens concludes the year with high ratings for its IP work. With the retention of national clients such as Edrington Group, Transport Scotland and the Weir Group, the IP team continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the contentious aspects of IP in the country. The team is led by partner Gill Grassie, with a total of six full-time professionals devoted to IP at the firm. A notable instance of continuing work for the firm is the representation of Verathon Medical, acting as claimant, in a patent infringement and validity case against Aircraft Medical. This is reported to be the first time a medical device patent has been litigated in Scotland.
