Tsar & Tsai Law Firm is a general practice law firm with a solid IP department. The head office is in Taipei with one branch office in Hsinchu. With 30 lawyers and 20 attorneys handling IP work, it is one of the larger IP teams within a general firm. The firm has an impressive portfolio of clients in various technical fields relating to patent work.
Many of its peers commend the firm for its standing in the IP field, and some highlight its strength when it comes to litigation work. The firm has had a great year for trade marks, confirming its tier 1 ranking for trade mark contentious work. By recruiting two associate partners and four associates this year, the team continues to steadily expand its presence.
The team helped Infoport Management file an opposition to protect its client's famous marks: Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf, marks often used on wallets and school bag products. The IP Office ruled in favour of its client and revoked the opposing mark, thereby protecting customers from confusing the source of the products.
The firm had similar success in its patent practice. Jennifer Lin, Edgar Chen and Vincent Lin teamed up to defend Applied Materials and AKT America in a civil action filed by Jusung Engineering for patent infringement. The Supreme Court's ruling dismissed the claim and ruled that the defendants did not infringe Jusung's separable chamber patent. The team successfully protected its clients' interest to sell and market its product in Taiwan without interference.
