King & Spalding is a full-service firm with more than 70 IP lawyers and eight offices across the U.S. The firm maintains especially deep concentrations of IP lawyers in its Atlanta and New York offices. While the majority of the IP group's focus is on patent litigation, attorneys also possess expertise across trademark and copyright matters.
In 2012, the firm achieved a significant victory in its defense of Google in the company's high-profile infringement battle with Oracle. The case centered on Oracle's claims that Google infringed on seven of its patents and a number of copyrights. King & Spalding attorneys successfully narrowed down Oracle's patent infringement claims in pre-trial and achieved a jury verdict finding of non-infringement on the remaining patents. The court also rejected Oracle's copyright claims. The firm's work on this case was selected by Managing Intellectual Property as the "United States Copyright/Patent Milestone Case of the Year" for 2012. Outside of litigation the firm actively provides counseling services for a variety of licensing and transactional deals.
