Primarily known for its corporate work, Bennett Jones has made strides in IP by handling matters for major clients in the technology, pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields. "We certainly feel that Bennett Jones is top tier and are comfortable enough with this that we have not used other firms for a number of years," said a client. In addition to offices in Canada's major centres, the firm expanded its international presence with the recent addition of offices in Beijing and Dubai.

Clients and peers consistently hailed Martin Kratz for his expertise in internet and technology law. "He's just scary smart," said a client. "Martin spells it out in clear language – he's wonderful," said another. Patent and trade mark agent Michael Whitt also earned praise. "He's been invaluable in providing advice and direction on many vital projects," said a client. "He brings exceptional experience and vision along with a common-sense approach that is very much appreciated." Despite the firm's successes, competitors noted the recent departures of litigator Art Renaud, who left for Gowlings, and now-Goodmans partner Dino Clarizio.

Bennett Jones successfully represented Teva Canada against Eli Lilly Canada's attempt to prohibit the Minister of Health from issuing a PM(NOC) for the drug raloxifine. The firm is also handling RIM's fight against the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement for the initials BBM. A trial is set to follow.
