Belgium - Benelux

The foundations of Altius are partners Paul Maeyaert, Olivier Vrins and Christopher Ronse. However Altius has a large team and counsel Nicolas Clarembeaux and senior associate Philippe de Jong are both regularly praised by clients. Vrins was recently appointed by the European Commission as an expert advisor for counterfeits and piracy while Maeyaert sits on the Belgium Intellectual Property Council advising regularly on national legislation. The firm acted on a number of high profile cases last year, advising Novartis in an attempted infringement suit against GlaxoSmithKline and Mitsubishi on a parallel import case against Duma which is now at the CJ. The firm is also helping Playboy Enterprises International defend its Playboy bunny in terms of trade mark, design and copyright. "Without any constraint, we would always entrust a case to Altius, on the basis of response times, business and industry knowledge, appropriateness of advice, strength-in-depth of the team and cost," says one client. Clients recommend Ronse for "high quality of work and being very business oriented" and Clarembeaux for being "a permanent helpdesk for our association". "Vrins is Altius for us!" says another, adding: "We are very proud to be its clients."
