The well-established Blake Dawson maintains a practice of seven IP partners in its Sydney and Melbourne offices and has about 30 paralegals working on IP matters across the nation. A frequent adviser on patent litigation, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry, Ben Miller is representing Spirit Pharmaceuticals in two cases: one against ALZA Corporation and Janssen-Cilag for alleged infringement and revocation of a patent, and the other against Mundipharma over the revocation of a patent for Oxycontin. Both cases will test Australian IP law.

In the area of IT and gaming patents, Miller is defending IGT Australia at the Federal Court against Aristocrat Technologies for alleged infringement and revocation of a patent for electronic gaming machine features.

Another of the firm's patent highlights has Mary Padbury helping medical devices company Smith & Nephew in an infringement proceeding that involves a patent for a foam dressing with negative-pressure wound therapy used to treat large open wounds.

For brand protection and enforcement work, Blake Dawson's clients include Coca-Cola Amatil, Diageo, Samsung Electronics and Rolex. One client described Melinda Upton and Lisa Ritson's services as first class: "They give thoughtful, practical and effective advice at competitive rates." Upton is advising Lego in potential copyright and trade mark infringements by RedBubble, an online store that extensively used Lego's trade marks and copyright works in its artwork.
