Magisters has an IP team which focuses predominantly on disputes relating to trade marks, trade mark protection, anti-counterfeiting, transaction-related IP and data protection. The firm's Moscow office has an IP/TMT team headed by senior associate Dr Pavel Sadovsky, who is member of the IP subcommittee of the Association of European Businesses in Russia. Sadovsky represented the association in making proposals for amendments to IP legislation. The firm is retained by Microsoft to provide legal support on issues including IP rights protection, licensing, media and marketing. In 2011 Padovsky was representing healthcare company Bayer in a trade mark infringement case after having successfully defended, in 2010, the Russian representative office of worldwide magazine publishers Condé Nast in a dispute related to protection of one of its trade marks. "I would like to emphasise Magisters' versatile approach in resolving difficult issues as well as its ability to professionally identify the most important aspects of the dispute," says client Condé Nast, adding: "The firm is also very flexible in their approach". IFS Russia says "the advisory services provided... stand out because of their clarity and good knowledge of Russian practice. The attorneys know nuances related to the IT sector and provided us with the high level of support". Elsewhere, the firm advised clients on protection of rights on software and mechanical technology and Padovsky and senior associate Dmitry Dementyev assisted Dow AgroSciences on the IP aspects of a distribution agreement.
