At the largest law firm in Japan, Nishimura & Asahi's IP litigation practice is at times overshadowed by the established corporate practices. However, this does nothing to diminish the quality of its IP services, as the firm is home to some of the most talented practitioners in the country. Besides the significant contributions from leading lawyers Masakazu Iwakura and Eiichi Fukushima, of counsel Nobuhiro Nakayama is recognised as one of the most influential figures related to IP strategies and legislation in Japan. Recently, Fukushima successfully represented JustSystems in defence of a patent infringement lawsuit involving Atok, the most famous Japanese language input method editor, as the Tokyo District Court judged that the technology incorporated in the products did not fall within the claimed scope of the patent. Iwakura also led the team in a highly innovative litigation for Chinese company Gree against DeNA and ORSO, as the first IP case involving cellular phone gaming software to be dealt with by a District Court.
