Editorial coverage

Finland

Roschier is undoubtedly a leading IP contentious firm for both trade marks and patents. The firm handles a large number of pharmaceutical cases for the biggest originators in the country. The team is headed by partner Rainer Hilli, who is president of the Finnish AIPPI Group and member of International AIPPI's membership committee. In 2010 the firm lost partners Niklas Östman to Nokia and Sakari Aalto to smaller rival Merilampi, however it elected Mikko Manner and Mikael Segercrantz to partner level. In a large trade mark case in 2010, Hilli and Essi Pokela represented Paulig Group against Coffeelings to successfully defend its client's Paulig trade mark against the use by Robert Paulig. Hilli worked with Segercrantz, Tom Groop, Sami Sunila and Topi Siniketo to represent AstraZeneca in litigation against Sandoz on several questions regarding the interpretation of the TRIPs Agreement and the European Enforcement Directive. In 2011 Hilli, Elina Saviharju and Johanna Flythström were also engaged advising Eli Lilly against a group of generic companies related to the defence of the patents for the blockbuster drug Zyprexa. Elsewhere the firm achieved customs seizures for Lego and Nokia and successfully represented the national Broadcasting Company and commercial broadcasting companies in copyright negotiations against collecting societies.
