Castrén & Snellman is known as being especially strong in media, ICT and TMT matters. However, it also has a good pure patent litigation practice headed by three IP counsel. For example, in 2010 life sciences counsel Hanna Paloheimo and IP counsel Petri Rinkinen represented Janssen-Cilag in patent litigation against generic companies Ratiopharm and Actavis, which started infringing actions in Finland. The case was complex as it involved cross-border cooperation with a number of IP firms in a number of countries. In another case, Jan Lindberg is advising Salwe on implementing an R&D collaboration scheme in health and well-being, which includes 27 leading domestic and international companies, Finnish universities and research centres. Rinkinen again appeared with Paloheimo advising Flinter Groningen and Flinter Shipping in a multimillion euro patent infringement and invalidation case, concerning alleged patent infringement in foreign ships.
