Gorrissen Federspiel moves up to tier one in patent contentious having consolidated its position in the top league of IP firms in the country. The firm's trade mark practice was also boosted in 2010 with the hire of much lauded Christian Kragelund to head the department. The firm has a so-called best friends relationship with Slaughter and May. The key names are head of IP Lasse Søndergaard Christensen and partner Janne Glæsel, who will in 2011 be participating in an external advisory group on the amendment of the Danish Trademark Act. According to one client: "it has been impressive to see how the lawyers are spending time to fully understand all the details so they can be in a position to do the best job possible for us". In 2010, Christensen advised Danish metal packaging producer Glud & Marstrand in a number of cross-border cases for Community design and trade mark protection, enforcement and litigation. Partner Jacob Ørndrup successfully acted for agrochemical manufacturer BASF in patent injunction proceedings against Makhteshim-Agan and Glæsel successfully defended the Danish trade mark Elite New York for Elite NYC and House of Scandinavian Care in a lawsuit instigated by Elite Licensing Company (Elite Models). Glæsel is still acting (since 2006) on the case TeliaSonera v Deutsche Telekom over the use of the colour magenta and Czech brewery Budejovicky Mestansky Pivovar (BMP) in the Danish Supreme Court case concerning the brewery's battle against Anheuser-Busch. The copyright practice also grew, with new attorneys from academic and industry backgrounds including from collecting society KODA, and new clients including Louis Vuitton.
