The Trademark Office of China’s State Administration for Industry and Commerce has released a list of 599 well-known trade marks.
There are two ways to attain well-known status in China: through litigation or during an administrative proceeding. Owners of well-known trade marks receive certain benefits, such as protection in categories of goods and services beyond those for which the mark is registered.
This latest list, released on April 27, shows marks that have been declared well known in administrative proceedings.
Japanese companies Yamaha (motorcycles) and Komatsu (earthworks equipment, construction) are among the companies whose marks have been awarded the status.
